All Down ALL DOWN
« on: July 21, 2009, 03:14:35 AM »
Once again I was out on the GTR, I ride Brit I ride Jap .... brake, gear lever switch no problem.... First down then up OK. One up and down OK. WHY do I have to say to myself ALL DOWN, ALL DOWN when I ride the GTR, I had a Lilac with a rotary box, my first Bridgestone 175 had one which I did put into first at approx 70 MPH for a short 70 million RPM second, Bike ran great after I was sure I had killed it.
ALL DOWN ALL DOWN ..........
OK I got it.
Am I the only one ???

I had the same problem.  Years ago, I modified mine to shift "all up".  This is a modification of my 350 GTR to reverse the shifting to end possible confusion when moving between bikes, especially a race bike that had normal "1st on the bottom" shifting.  It is a simple mod if you have access to a welder.  The normal shift lever was cut off and modified to add a fork that extends rearward, then a new shift lever created that pivots in the frame hole for the optional left side brake lever.

Looks like I REALLY need to clean up this bike.   ::)

Thanks for posting the picture and description Karl. Not likely I'll get my GTR on the road this year (lousy summer weather and too much o.t. at work). I am riding the little MB5 and always asking myself when going for second if it's up or down?

Karl,
Just ran across this old post and was wondering if you could possibly add any more detailed information or pictures of this conversion.  I think it's a great idea and would eventually like to try it.
Thanks!

Sorry, forgot about this.  I'll try to get photos in the next few days. It's pretty simple, but a couple photos would help.
