Locating pins
« on: December 13, 2017, 02:40:56 PM »
Gday all
I have a couple of cases where the locating pins or lugs for the output shaft have been pushed into the cases from someone not lining them up
Has anyone had this problem and been able to get the pins out with out damage to the casings
I think the pins are hardened so drilling would be difficult
Arching out a welding rod maybe to get some leverage?
Or the worst case senario to drill a hole under the pins and tap them back up and then fill the holes
Has anyone had success with this
Cheers

I haven't tried this, but maybe heating the area to 500-600 degrees with a small torch would loosen the pin enough to pull out with a strong magnet.  I've found an infrared thermometer to be helpful checking to see how hot something is when heating it for reasons like this.  Otherwise, it's hard to tell the difference between 200 and 500 degrees.

Arc welding a welding rod (or any piece of round steel) to the pin and pulling with that also sounds like a good idea to me. You'd just need to be careful to get it centered.
