Leaves falling in August?
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:27:00 PM »
Over the past few days a large oak behind my house has lost it's leaves. It looked healthy as usual up until now. Has anyone else experienced problems due to the excessive heat and drought conditions we're experiencin'? Guess I'll have to break out the Husky >:(

Suck it up and start bagging!  ;D  Can you say MULCH?

All kidding aside, I hope the tree isn't permanently damaged and it's only shedding growth it can't sustain in these conditions.

We have a big oak on our property and just today the outer leaves started showing signs of stress. We were in an area considered "abnormally dry" but we've had some rains the last 2 weeks. It does seem like bees and wasps are coming out earlier than normal.

Some of my trees are doing the same thing, and I have been watering quite a bit. We won't have a pretty fall.

Speaking of bees and wasps, I've had more than the usual amount. I've gone through maybe 6 cans of spray in the last two weeks alone and even burned three nests with fire. I destroyed a large hornet nest under the eave of the house. They are still nesting in the attic, bushes near the house and my motorcycles. They like it under the tanks and fenders. I keep them covered with tarps and it's very hot under them but they still keep building nests.

Shoot, that's nothing. The other evening while watching TV, I spotted some movement on the carpet and saw one of these....... YIKES!

Yea, I agree excessive heat and draught. Here in the Dallas area I 've seen entier limbs of trees break off for no other apparent reason. I guess old Al Gore was right about his "inconvenient truth" and it still seems like no one wants to admit it.

Well it's been almost a year to the day and the tree is dead. Made a decent splash, though. Sorry bout the bad filming. That's my oldest son on the chainsaw. (Son of Bikenstein ;D) Time for a cold coke.

Sorry the tree didn't make it.  We have several trees that dropped a lot of leaves last summer and made it just fine.  The neighbor across the road has a big maple with branches that hang clear across the road and it drops about 30% of its leaves anytime we have a slightly dryer than normal summer; every 2-3 years normally.
