Hi,

If it's got a chrome fuel tank, it'll be a 1969 model. If the tank is painted Gold with a black lower section or Green with a Lemon Yellow lower section it'll be a 1970 bike, and if it's Tangerine orange or Pearl White with stick-on black stripes, it'll be a 1971 model.

The exact month and year of manufacture can be worked out from the frame serial number on the alloy plate (starts 23.........). If you let me know what the serial number is I'll translate it for you.

Hope that helps,

Graham

Thanks, Mark.

That's one more number added to the list for a January 1971 bike - quite a late one.

Graham,

Any chance there's a picture available of a TMX in the white color?  I never new they made white 100's.

Hi, Rowland,

I'll dig out my 1971 BS100 Brochure with a pic of the bike and try to post a copy on the site - watch this space.

The 1971 100TMX and G/P models were in either Tangerine Orange or Pearl White, both with the same black stick-on fuel tank stripes and checkerbord decals on the fuel filler cap. The 200 and 350 models used a similar colour scheme, but in Gold (insteqd of Tangerine) or Peal White.

Hi again, Folks,

Whoops! My memory is playing tricks on me with the TMX colour schemes. I Checked my1971 brochure and realised they made BS100s in Gold, not in Pearl White. I'm sure I've seen picture somewhere of a white 1971-style TMX, but I can't find it anywhere. It is, of course, possible that a dealer in the US produced some White ones by respraying them locally - just like the Blue 350 GTRs which Bridgestone never produced but they certainly seemed to exist back in the day.

I've attached some scans of the BS100 brochure anyway.

Graham,

Thanks for clearing that up.  I thought I'd missed a color combo.  Do you happen to know what year the 100 G/P's had the blue and chrome tank?  Thanks for posting the brochure too.

Hi, Rowland,

The TMX and G/P had a choice of Candy Red/Chrome or Candy Blue/Chrome for the 1968 and 1969 model years. For the 1970 model year they changed to Sequoia Green with a Pale Yellow stripe or Candy Gold wiith a Black stripe. (see the pic of my green TMX in the 90/100 Gallery section).

Thanks Graham,

My 5 hp version was blue/chrome.  I didn't realize the G/P model was out in 1968.

Thanks again for all your help,

Rowland

I don't the G/P model itself was around in 1968. The pipe frame BS100 was sold that year only in  "BS100 Trail" guise. For the 1969 season, the 100 Trail was modified with more extreme "Knobbles" on the tyre treads, and the Headlamp bucket, rear shock tops and front fork covers were changed from the body colour (Candy red/Blue) to Metallic Silver (the same colour as the engine side cases and fork bottoms). The modified bike was re-badged as the "100 TMX" and it was at that point that Bridgestone introduced the roadster vesrion as gteh 100 G/P.
