67 Scrambler Jugs
« on: November 26, 2013, 02:57:59 PM »
Hello All,

I've just started to get my 67 BS175HS running again.  It's been parked for nearly 30 yrs...

Started with the seized pistons and after two weeks of effort I finally got them to move.

My question is: Do I need to drop the motor in order to get the jugs off?  Or, is there any way to avoid that?

Thanks!
Steve

I did this quite awhile ago, but if I remember correctly you only have to drop the front of the motor ever so slightly.  They will come off with just a little more clearance.  Hope this helped.

You can also double-nut the studs and remove them, but on an old bike, they may not come out easily.

Oh, I forgot (been doing it so long) that the studs are 7mm and finding nuts is a problem - I cut a stock head nut in half to make two.  There's not enough exposed thread to use two full height nuts. That means you need a spare you don't need to reuse.
