I need to buy a battery
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:09:22 AM »
Hi Guys,

I need to buy a battery for My nearly restored GTR and wonder if there are any that are better for my bike, you know like smoother running at tick over or better lights without blowing fuses, melting wires and other nasty shttttt  :o
I'm very open to decent suggestions , well maybe not any of a perverted or sexual nature  ::)
Also off the top of your heads what is the run in period for a rebuilt motor with new pistons/rings etc. and at what sort of revs.
First oil change too, though I'm probably going to do a change at 500 miles or less no matter what it is  ;D

Colin.

After several standard batteries failed after a year or two in my 350, I put in an AGM battery in November 2010. It is still good after three+ years.  It was a YT5AL AGM 12V 5AH battery from batterystuff.com and cost $31.00 in 2010. It fits properly in the battery box (same configuration as a 12N5.5-3B). It seems to maintain a longer charge without significant self-discharge, too.

If you have shorted wiring or other serious electrical problems, it will still fry your wiring, though.   ;D

I'd say 500 miles is a good break-in period.  Just don't hold high revs/high throttle for any extended time

I bought this same battery on Karl's recommendation. Love that it is maintenance free.

Thanks guys, I'm on it, looks like I might not be able to get that specific brand over here though.

Aah! Forgot you weren't in the U.S.  The AGM batteries seem to work well. My FJR 1300 came with one and it lasted 5 years.  My 350 GTR always overcharged standard batteries and eventually dried them out causing early failures, when I'd forget to watch them closely.  The AGM style seems to handle that better.
