Front brake
« on: February 25, 2021, 08:26:11 AM »
Hi all.anyone had any issues with the front brake connecting rod. On my 175 DT it was bent and straightened alarmingly easily. Hoping it doesnt bend again under operation
Cheers David

Received my 350 GTR rod (which I believe is the same piece) back from plating. The threads had been masked, but there was slight surface rust from shipment. Took it over to the wire wheel on the bench grinder to brighten it up, and with a light touch, the threaded portion snapped off. Made a new assembly using 6mm rose ends and a 6mm LH and RH threaded rod.

Thanks for your reply.by coincidence ive just restored a gtr which had the conrod brake arm broken off at the thread.maybe its some sort of metal fatigue.the gtr conrod is hex bar threaded to 5mm at the ends which is a bit stronger than the 175 which is just 5mm dia rod with a hex in the middle albeit m/ced from one piece

Hmmm... Makes me want to check the rod on my 350. It's only been in use for 50 years and 40,000 miles...
