Alternate method of wiring condenser
« on: February 01, 2025, 03:10:06 PM »
I'm still working (off and on) on rebuilding my 175 engine.  I found a one wire condenser that otherwise fits the 175 dynamo perfectly.  Can I run a jumper from the points (where the condenser connects) straight up to the black or white wires from the dynamo harness that go the coils?

I'd attach a photo but for the last couple of years the site always tells me that the upload file is full...try again later.

Yes CL-100, you can do that.

There are 3 connections that have to join together for the ignition to work:
1. Points "Hot" Terminal
2. Condenser "Hot" Wire or Terminal
3. Coil Wire

It doesn't matter if these connections are made at the points or at the condenser terminals or a combination of both of these.
Don't remotely mount the condensers though.
For the longest points life condensers should be mounted close to the points so their wires can remain short (and will have very low resistance).

Best Regards,
Mike

czMike,

Thanks for confirming this for me.  It made sense to me but I've never heard of anyone else wiring the three components up like this.  It will look a little neater if I don't have to try and cram a connection into the space over the points.  By the way, these are Kawasaki one wire condensers and they fit perfectly.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise.

Rowland
