Title: BS 100 Sport
Post by: reidy on May 24, 2021, 04:10:36 PM
Hi, I live in the North West of the UK and have just bought a BS 100 Sport with a friend. Its a non runner at the moment so we are not sure what we might find when we begin to strip it down. We think it has been imported into the UK from The USA perhaps a few years ago. We are not sure of its age of manufacture but think it is possibly 1969. The serial number plate has Rockford Scooter company on it. We don't think the paint job is an original colour and we wonder if the petrol tank has ever had chrome plating on it.

It looks nearly complete. The color isn't original. You can find plenty of photos and even ads from back in the day on this site. All the manuals are also available in PDF format. There is also a S/N guide on here that will let you figure out the manufacture date. Check the Serial Number ID guide section.

Thanks for the information. I have now got the parts manual. It has been seized at some stage. I can get the bore mended and replated in the UK but cant seem to get a new piston and rings.

Hello,

I had a 1969 BS100 and that was the first year of the tube type frame.   Your bike has a stamped frame so it is likely to be older than a '69.  That muffler is also an older version of the style I had.  The S/N guide will tell you exactly which month/year your bike was manufactured.  For quite some time in the US, a new bike was frequently titled for the year it was first registered.  So a leftover 1969 bike purchased new in 1970 would show up in the records as a 1970.  I'm not sure when they finally stopped doing this but my '69 bike was titled as a 1970.  As said previously, search this site for brochures and make note of the different frame types.
