New to the site, just picked up a 1964 Bridgestone 90 for my wife

 Hey all, my name is Matt and my wife joined up on this site a while back when we got her her first Bridgestone 90 project which looked to be a '67 BS90 Mountaineer.

Well, I wanted to find her a more in tact one, so I was searching Craigslist in my area and came across a 1964 Bridgestone 90 for $800, made the opwner an offer of $500 and took it home. It runs, but doesn't have the original motor. Seems during some time down the line someone replaced the original motor with a Honda 90 cc motor. Other than that, everything else is original and in good shape. From what I can tell through the vin, it's an early April 1964 Deluxe/Trail/Mountain  (12D001467), and came with California black plates on it, with the last registration sticker being from 1982. The person I bought it from was not the original owner, but his daughter was riding it around last summer.

Just though I'd pop on here for some resourceful knowledge about these bikes.

Thanks! So, odd question, but with this Bridgestone, I'm no9ticing the lack of a clutch hand and cable, but there is two brake handles on the bars, one for the front and one for the rear, as well as a foot pedal for the rear brake. Does this mean the motor and trans from the Honda probably utilizes an auto clutch for the trans/motor? What I mean by auto clutch is you just let off the throttle and shift, the roll back on the throttle as opposed to let off the throttle, pull clutch, shift, let off the clutch and roll on the throttle?

If it's a Honda with an auto clutch, it's probably a motor like the Trail 90 which was 4 speed with a high low feature on most, except for the early ones which used a double rear sprocket set-up and the 1980 ct110, which was the last year of the 90 and first year of the 110. They dropped the high/low feature that year and brought it back the following year.. I believe the Honda 90 atv's were 2 speed at least some of them. I'm not sure about the atv's or the Chinese repros.

Just thinking about it further. I would say a 64 model would have an old trail 90 engine. The 4-wheelers and Chinese bikes were much later. And the rear brake with the clutch side set up was on the Hondas from 64 to 74. If it has the dual range switch on the left engine cover it will be an 8 speed. If not it will be a 4 speed from 64-67. Good motors. Are you gonna put the BS 90 engine on it?

Oh, and I took a look at the engine cases, no switch that I could see.

I'll get one tomorrow, but I did take a look on the left side of the engine and found CT200E on the casing.

Well that means it's a 64 to 66 Trail 90 with the automatic clutch. They had the rear brake foot and left lever activation. 4 speed tranny was before the high low dual range switch which was added in 68. Mystery solved
