Hello, I'm a bit confused about how the fibre timing idler gear is fitted.
1. Does the bearing fit on the inside or outside face of the gear?
2. Should there be a spacer on the inside?
3. Where does the wave washer fit, on the inside or outside?
It looks from the parts manual that the bearing goes on the inside face and the wave washer goes between the bearing and the shoulder? If that's the case then the gear will foul one of the rotary valve cover bolts.
I'm stumped!

Thanks DCR, that's the one. It looks as if the bearing is flush with the front face and then secured using the clip but what's supposed to be behind it?

Pretty sure the wave washer goes on first and the pressure of the wave washer keeps the gear pushed away from the rotary valve cover. Ill double check tonight when I get home.

That's very kind of you, thanks. I have tried it that way but the wave washer doesn't get anywhere near the bearing due to the fact that the bearing only goes half way through the gear. I'm convinced that something is missing like a spacer but can't find any reference to anything in the parts manual.

You need two bearings in the phenolic gear. At least that's what mine came with.
I see parts manual lists qty of 1 for #21 "timing gear bearing". Hmmmm.
I bought used timing gear off eBay and that also came with two bearings.

2 bearings. Side with alignment dots is recessed about 1mm. Back side sets out a bit. I'll post pics tomorrow. Having some issues posting pictures from iPad. Bearings are Japan Koyo 6001's.

Thanks DCR. There's no need for a picture, it all makes sense now. Two bearings will sort out the problem. Mine had only one fitted and the parts list only shows one.
