2nd hobbies and barn finds
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:29:46 AM »
Just thought I would share some pictures of my other interests as the snow starts to fly this morning.  The silver snowmobile is a 1968 Snowbug made in Canada.  It is aluminum and was equipped with a single ski and a 300 Hirth engine.  It was mostly used by foresters, loggers and the like.   It was known to be excellent for cutting a path through deep snow in the woods.  Bought off a owner who had it since 1969 or so.  It was located off the beaten path in his storage barn in the State of Maine.

The blue sleds are assorted Snojets, Also built in Canada and mostly factory equipped with Yamaha engines.  Snojet was bought out by Kawasaki around 1976.  Kawasaki was in a rush to get into the snowmobile market in order to meet contract obligations and buying Snojet was the fastest opportunity to get things going.  The 1977 Snojet was actually a rebadged Kawasaki.

By mid to late 1970's, the snowmobile market had bottomed out and most of the companies went out of business or left the snowmobile business.

Great collection of snow mobiles - not much use here without wheels. I would not be walking in thick knee high grass in Summer in Eastern Oz - see below:

I guess you only have bears to deal with.

Thank you Ray, they actually have grass drags with newer snowmobiles over here.  Not something I am into though.  You would definitely get some attention if you did that where you are.

I don't blame you about going in the brush with snakes like that.  Black bears are nothing compared to that, they try to avoid humans if they can.  The most dangerous thing in these woods is a tiny little insect called a Deer tick.  They carry lyme disease which causes all kinds of neurological problems. Never was a problem in the "old" days. They are all over the U.S. now.

I am glad that some of our forum members are doing their part in killing Whitetail deer, the primary host of the tick.  I'd prefer they use a gun though!

A driver's license is cheaper than a hunting license. And you can use it legally during the dark too!
I was happy to read over 220,000 deer were taken during this fall hunting season in Wisconsin. :D
