Bridgestone 50 Sport Engine rebuild - Technical help required
« on: February 05, 2010, 04:46:30 AM »
I have just finished the re-build of the BS 50 motor.  All seemed well until the re-building of the clutch assembly which went back together OK .  I notice that there is about 1/8 inch end play when the motor is on its side with clutch face up if you pull upwards on the clutch assembly.  Is this normal?  I am hoping that when I put the clutch release arm/release push screw with the crank case cover will push against the bearing in the clutch set plate it will take up this 1/8 inch end play.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am dreading the possibility of pulling the motor apart again.

Do you mean the whole clutch moves in and out?  Or do you mean the clutch itself has play between the plates and the top pressure plate?

Hi Richard
The whole clutch moves up and down with the shaft going into the crankcase.  There is slight movement also within the clutch itself.  The plates could be worn.

Ray,

Do you have  part number 09048-10  #12 Thrust washer, installed on opposite end of that clutch trans shaft?  See Transmission
section in the 50-60 sport PARTS MANUALS in the DOWNLOADS section

I am 99% certain that #09048-101 is installed - please note that I have used new Oil injection cases probably from a 90.  Should these be different from the 50 engine cases?

Cheers
Ray
BTW the parts arrived OK - thanks for the plugs etc.  Tank pads would be nice ( rary bears I'll bet )
