When you take your petcock apart you will notice that the "face" that the rubber gasket seals against is probably pitted from age and gas. (This "face" is actually the flat part of the lever you turn to go to the different positions.... on, off and reserve).

Take a few minutes and polish the pits out of it on a buffer, it will help your new gaskets seal and prevent leaks.

Plus they come with a filter that goes inside the fuel tap etc.
