Gas milage
« on: February 19, 2011, 03:52:17 PM »
With gas pushing up past $3 a gallon and most likely headed towards $4 it makes me think about putting the GTR into regular "daily rider" service. The only problem is..... I've ridden it very little and I have no idea what kind of gas mileage it gets

Does anyone have a general idea about a 350's MPG number? My Triumph Rocket III gets worse mileage than some of my cars.  :o
I have a tilt wheel for more headroom!

Back when, my 350 got around 43-48 depending on use.  Highway more in the 45-48 range, normal town more in the lower 40's.  I was just a bit jealous of the guys I rode with who had Honda 450's, they both were up in the higher 50's on the highway, although they had to use premium and the 350 always digested regular just fine.  This was all in the late 60's early 70's.

Call me anal, but I picked up my dad's habit of keeping a gas log for the vehicles I drive.
So back in the day (when my age ended with "-teen") the GTR got numbers ranging from 37-47 mpg, I still have that log.
So it does beat what my daily driver gets, but I'd have to ride it lots more to justify the cost of plates, insurance, new tires, etc as being covered for with the increased mpg.
This is offset by the "what is it?" which is then followed with a "I didn't know they made motorcycles", that is darn near priceless!
