Steve, These 175's are a sturdy, well balanced machine and have a particularly snappy powerband when compared to the other Enduro series Yamahas. I think they were one of their most efficient platforms in this series. Faster than the 125's and lighter/quicker than the 250. I rebuilt this Kawasaki F7 with a new complete crankshaft assy and a .040 over Wiseco piston set, cleaned up the porting and re-jetted the carb. For an F7, it ran very well. This stock Yamaha would give it a good spanking.  Mark.

Nice size the 175, I remember my TS250 being a bit heavy, but there again I was only 9 1/2 stone then.

I had a 1973 Yamaha 175 when I was a kid. It looked just like that one, same color but had different stripes on the tank. I always hated how the front fender was mounted. It didn't have that "cool" dirt bike look. That was 32 years ago. There is a farmer that lives 6 miles from me that owns it now and it's still running.

And, I just bought a 1972 Kawasaki F7 last week. It started and ran, but we are in the process of parting it out now.

I really enjoy this forum, brings back lots of memories.  :)

That does bring back memories!!  I had the identical bike back in 79 and 80. That little cycle went thru H*LL and never complained once.
bout 3 years ago I got a 75 DT175 from my brother. Still alot of fun but didn't seem to have the power of the CT. Maybe coz I was bout 75 pounds lighter then?  :D

I too love these little DT175 Yams...I restored this one a number of years ago that had been left in a damp garage for over 25 years and only had approx 2000 miles on the clock...it was in a fairly sorry state. It was only about half a mile from home and my then wife spotted it as she was doing some gardening for the elderly lady who lived there...it belonged to her son who bought it new in '76 but stopped riding it a couple of years later after he bought his first car. He so wanted it back after he saw it restored!  :D

Steve,
Very nice Yamaha DT 175, also liked the DT 250 with the orange and white tank.
I worked for a Yamaha dealer so i was able to road test all of the Yamahas etc.
Thanks.
Steve Reed.
PS the The Yamaha DT 175 would keep up with the DT 250 we had a lot of fun
Riding the Yamaha off road back in Wales good times!!
