175 Carb problams

Im having problams with my 175 dt carbs.  I can only get the bike to run for a few seconds and only if I cover the air intake with my hand.  Im guess the problam is in the starter wire.  I've had the carbs apart several times.  All the jets and ports are clear, expect for the starter jet port in the carbs main body.  Jet in the fuel bowl is clear.  When I try and shoot air through the starter jet or the air vent it doesn't make its way through.  I think the starter wire is stuck down.  Does the starter wire come out out? and if so how?  The lever on the handle bars only moves about 3/4 of an inch, so im pretty sure this is my problam.  Any help would be great!

The starter plunger does come out you will have to undo the brass cap on top of the carb.
Then spray some WD 40 down into the plunger chamber and then pull up the plunger should
Come out.If the plunger is seized in the chamber give me a call i can put the carbs in my
Ultrasonic tank and the plunger will be out in five minutes my web site is carbworx.com

I got the starter plugs removed, cleaned and put back in.  The bike fired right up on the first kick and ran for a few minutes!  It then died.  It repeated this for the next 3-4 times i kicked it, as I was trying to adjust the carbs.  Now it will fire but wont start.  I think the battery is to low for efficient spark.  I dont have the charging system figured out yet.  Which leads me to my next question.  I didnt use a stock bridgestone ingnition key.  I used a simple on/off keyed switch.  So the stock wiring diagram doesnt really help me.  So, im not sure how to connect the generator and recifier to the battery?  Any input would be great.  Im assuming a can adjust the carb to get the bike to run.

I would get a Bridgestone ignition switch and then down load the manual so you can check out your charging system.

Got carbs back from Steve Reed the oher day.  Bike runs great now!  Thanx again Steve!

Great to hear that Reed helped get another BS running. First I'd just check the voltage across the battery terminals while running and with different light configurations. A reading with no lights, then headlight and rear running light, then add the rear brake light too. Do it with the motor running a little faster than idle. If it's not holding more than 12.5 to 13 volts DC, start doing some circuit checking.

I WAS READING ABOUT THE STUCK CARB AND I AM HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I AM SPRAYING WD-40
CARB CLEANER PB BLASTER TO NO AVAIL. ANY OTHER IDEAS TO FREE THINGS UP IN THERE BEFORE I GO THE ULTRA-SONIC ROUTE ?

Try putting the carbs in hot water that might help, when i clean carbs i use hot water in the ultrasonic!
To free things up etc.

I just went throught this a couple days ago on a pair of carbs for a 200. A full immersion soak in the GUNK carb cleaner and they both popped free. They need to soak, a quick spray isn't enough penetration.

If you are going to use Gunk carb cleaner remove the float gaskets and any thing that is rubber etc.
The carb cleaner will eat away the gaskets and any rubber parts..

REED, THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP WITH THE SOAKING AND TAKING OUT THE RUBBER PARTS. THREE DAYS OF SOAKING DID THE TRICK.
ANY SPECIAL PROCEDURE I SHOULD FOLLOW TO MAKE SURE THE TUBE IS CLEANED OUT OTHER THAN BRUSHING IT OUT. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP. SCOTT

Do you have some spray carb cleaner? Attach the little red tube and spray that into all the passages. Watch your eyes though as it can go in one and out another right into your face if you aren't careful. all the jets removed? Make sure those are clear also. If you have an air compressor with an air nozzle it doesn't hurt to give all the passages a shot with that as well.
