oil pump installation 175 HS
« on: March 02, 2014, 05:10:12 PM »
My HS came without an oil pump installed. I have one and it has 3 line fittings. I see the mounting boss on the left side for one and the middle fitting is for the oil tank I assume. Where does that 3rd line bolt on?

The photos in the service and technical manuals are pretty useless.  Until someone posts some decent photos, a description will have to do:  the rubber oil line goes from the oil pump fitting, through the crankcase wall above the oil pump, under the alternator and connects to a brass fitting in the right crankcase wall which then feeds a passage in the right rotary valve cover.

Make certain your pump has the check valves in the outlet fitting locations.

Hope this helps, I don't have a 175/200 that has an oil pump on it to photograph.

Hi,

Good description of the oil line routing, but on my 175 (and my spare engine) there is a fixed metal pipe running across the engine behind the cylinders which connects in to the right hand dic valve chamber and at the other end just projects into the oil pump/carburettor housing. The R.H. oil line simply pushes on to the end of the pipe - but I's recommend wiring it in place rather than relying on the push fit, just in case!

Thanks, Graham. I'm sure you're right - I was going from memory and the sketch in the parts catalog. It's been many, many years since I actually tore into a street 175.

Thanks-I took the clutch basket and the rotary cover off and see what you're talking about. Unfortunately it looks like someone has crimped that brass fitting in the crankcase shut. I was told this motor had been set up for racing-I guess they wanted to be sure to use pre-mix only.

That cross pipe has been removed and the end in the crankcase crimped shut-I think I'm going to call it good and just premix. Appreciate the help.
