Something pretty simple stumped me this past week. After several hours I figured it out and wanted to share with anyone else that's a novice like me.
Problem: Left carb starving for fuel
Tried: Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, boiling, cleaning, switching, cleaning!
I could only get fuel through the carb by choking briefly with my hand. I though it might be a plugged idle jet or one of the ports were plugged. I finally swapped the carbs to eliminate some cabling issue and the problem transferred. Both floats were functioning but after looking at a manual again, I considered the fact that maybe the bad carb was not getting quite enough fuel into the bowl to feed one or more of the jets (particularly the starting and idle jets). I then compared the floats in both carbs and determined the bad one's float tab was bent too severe and was probably engaging the needle/seat prematurely. I bent it back closer to how the other was and through it all together hoping for resolution.
Verdict: It worked like a charm. Starts much easier and both cylinders are engaged and set to a nice two-banger popping idle with great throttle response.
I suffered the common problem of overlooking the simple/obvious.
