Remove oil level window on tank

Has anyone successfully removed and replaced the round oil level window on an oil injected 90?  I would like to strip and powdercoat the tank but fear the plastic window and rubber frame wouldn't stand up to the heat.  Ideally I'd like to reuse the window after powder coating since I doubt replacements are available. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, the heat to powdercoat will damage the window.

My preferred method to remove the window is to carefully pry around the edge of the rubber seal with a not quite sharp knife edge.  It needs to have enough of an edge to catch on the rim of the rubber seal, but not sharp enough to cut it.  You just pry it out a little at a time, and slowly work your way all around.  It may take a while, but this will get the window and seal out without damage so they can be reused.  Last I knew, Richard had windows available if yours does need replaced.

Hey verygary. I see this is your first post, so welcome to the world of BS.
With the window removed per the instructions from BS Mechanic, you can safely clean and paint or powder the tank.
When you get ready to put the window back (or install a new one) use a little clear sealant on the outer edge and around the inside diameter it fits into. Not much required. Just enough to seal it up and not leave a mess to clean up. Good luck.

I found that using a dental tool is the best for removing sight windows a small pointy hooked one. Once I didn't even damage the paint will post a picture later cheers

Thanks to everyone for the help.  I'm headed out to try removing the window with your advice.  I've got the bike almost completely disassembled and the motor out.  Really enjoy figuring out all the little nuances.  I have a collection of 6 small Hondas I've restored but this is the first Bridgestone and first two cycle I've attempted.  I would add a picture of the bike as I bought it but haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Well, the oil level window removal didn't go well.  Worked slow and easy but still couldn't get it to lift. I eventually tore the top rubber flange, which seemed to be glued down, but after it was out of the way I did mange to get the rest of the unit out.   Hopefully the host of this site has a replacement in stock.  I've sent him a preliminary list of parts but haven't heard back from him.  Again, thanks for the help.
