DT175 ignition coil

I'm finally getting ready to try to fire this DT175 I been working on for a year. I am only getting spark from one side of the coil. New points and condensor , I checked points with ohm meter and they are both making and breaking contact. There is however only one set of points that will spark when opening them manually and the battery attached. My question is will the coil sometimes fail on just one cylinder? Are the coils grounded seperately or as a unit? I checked spark by hooking a battery directly to the coil wires and cranking it over with the plugs removed. Also , I switched plugs and still just the one side sparking. Thanks for your help!

Yes the coil can fail on just one side. Check to see if your coil looks like it has any cracks in it. I have found coils that are cracked and you can see a bit of residue has leaked out and then possibly solidified on the coil.  You may not see an actual crack just the result.

I got it running , had the white coil wire not plugged in. However , I left the key on and now think I burned opne set of points up. Check my other string of posts , "Barn fresh DT175.
