Hey guys,

Been working on restoring my 175 Dual Twin for almost 3 years.  One last question about the initial carb adjustments before I try to fire it up next weekend(weather pending!).

What is the proper initial setting for the Throttle Stop Screws (Part# 1627-5010, shown as Index#13 on page 6 of the 175 parts manual (pdf attached)) located at the top of the mixing chamber tops?

I've already adjusted the throttle cables at the top of the mixing chamber tops so that there is an 18mm gap between the mixing chamber top and the throttle valves.  I know the Throttle Stop Screws affect idle, just not sure what the initial setting should be.  (Am I getting confused?  I used the Throttle Cable Adjusters (Index#10) to set the 18mm between the mixing chamber top and the throttle valve....should I have used the Throttle Stop Screw instead?)

Also, when the throttle is twisted and the throttle valves raise, should the Throttle Stop Rods (Index #12) also raise through the top of the Throttle Stop Screws or should the Throttle Stop Rods stay down and be visible behind the throttle valves through the mouth of the carbs?  Does it make a difference?  I've seen mine do both at various times.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but this is the first 175 that I've had, first dual carb bike that I've had and my first full restoration.  Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

#13 is adjusted to proper idle speed, be sure to sync both cylinders together.

#10 is used to adjust throttle cable free play, after correct idle is obtained by #13 above.

Hope this helps a bit

It really sounds like you have put a lot of work into it. What I did on my 175 is just screw the idle all the way down and try to start her up. It didn't start the first time. So I just kept raising the idle little by little till she fired. After I got it cranked is when I sync'd the carbs and smoothed out the idle. Hope it helps!
Oh and it really helped me to have another hand to help out cause kicking the start and setting the idle are tough to do by yourself. Good luck!

Thanks Richard and Joseph.....between your replies and talking to Steve Reed yesterday, I think I'm good to go.  I'll get some pics up after she's up and running!

Thanks again!
