My Pit Replica 350 seat cover arrived today!
« on: March 10, 2012, 06:20:00 PM »
Just pulled it out of the box.  It looks terrific!  You can't beat the price.  For you guys sitting on the fence, I recommend you buy one before they run out and decide that sales are not sufficient to warrant producing more.  Like they used to say to "Mikey" in the cereal commercial  "Try it, you'll like it."

They get a A++ for Bridgestone value!!!

Harry, can you post some pictures of it after fitting. I know they look good but where can I find good pictures of the fit?

Thanks Steve, I want to see one fit onto the seat foam and pan completed. I'd like to know how well they fit and maybe  how consistent they are at fitting well.

Didn't see any photos on that thread, Moonpup. Also does anyone know about the seat foam i.e. open cell, closed cell, what pound weight to use? I'd still love to see photos of the pit replica seat installed if there are any. I am burnt out today.

Thanks Steve. If you or someone else has used these before with consistent results, I'd like to know. I've done upholstery myself  and can do a cover in vinyl but just can't duplicate the suede looking fabric. I don't think I have a supplier for it. I would like to be assured that it would be a nice fit.

The Pit Replica cover has those, what I call "heat pleated" seams on top.  That is something you would not be able to duplicate with a flat piece of material.

Believe me, for the price, you can't go wrong.

The foam may be difficult to duplicate in firmness and shape.  It is on the hard side.  Maybe because it is 40 yrs old and brittle!  I would call it "closed cell" foam.  I will try to take a picture of the foam today.

i wish you guys all the luck with the pit replica covers ,everyone seems to like them but after my 175 fiasco   of being around 2 in to short i wouldn't use them again maybe there is a size difference between pre and post 16g  but i am not sure so  i went to the professional for the gtr

I agree with COXY.  The cover I got from them for my 175 HS was about 2" too short.  After struggling, heating (with a heat gun) and blowing out a couple of seam that I had to re-stich, I finally got the cover to fit.  Would have been a whole lot easier if it was the right size to start with.  Good looking cover over all, just a tad too small for the 175 seat pans!

Lets hope they fit better on the 350's.  Make sure you let them know so they can fix the problem with the 175 covers.

Hey thanks Moon pie, that's exactly what I wanted! I'm workin 7 10's and my brain waves are showin it. :'( Apparently they are having problems with the 175 seat that someone should make them aware of. From the thread you referred, I believe the GTR seat is a good fit and I am confident in purchasing one. I see from the photos that the foam is cut in various shapes that a layman would have difficulty duplicating. It's probably a heavyweight open cell as closed cell foam, once it crushes, doesn't retain it's shape. The glue you use is only to hold the foam in position until you have the cover secure. I built exercise equipment for 15 years and made my own pads for the machines . I used high density closed cell foam in most places or a combo of open and closed cell in varying weights because of the extreme pressure exerted in certain areas. I used a special glue, available at upholstery shops, but there is an alternative glue that works well especially if you are going to have several pieces to adhere like the GTR seat has. I'm in Kentucky workin on a power plant right now so I can't tell you anymore about the glue until I return to Alabama. Even if your foam appears to be undamaged, I believe you could still have wear problems with a new cover due to the age because it does become harder and more brittle. I would be interested if someone has successfully used a new cover on old foam for a period of time.

i let them know that the 175 cover was to short but other people seemed not to have a problem so i assumed there was a variation in actual seat sizes ? they said to send the original seat cover to them but i did not have an original it was a back yard job so i left it at that .cheers.

Just wanted to put my opinion in of the PR seat cover (arrived today ...super fast delivery) very nice and well worth the money. I am not putting any blame on anyone, but not sure if there was a different side logo ( i did not inquire, :-[ thats why it is not their fault) my original has the larger 'italicized' Bridgestone logo (1971). Other than that i am more than pleased, seems to be exact size fit. :) Price cannot be beat

All of the covers I have purchased from them have the original smaller logo. The GTO's and probably late GTR's seem to use the larger logo. The  small ones I believe are more common.

The 70 Gold & Chrome GTO's had the smaller font. I'm pretty sure only the 1971 GTR's & GTO's had the larger font.
