Title: Overheating coils
Post by: BigAl8295 on October 18, 2014, 04:45:09 PM
I'm having a problem with my 200 project bike.  I'm not getting spark and the coils heat up.

I tried swapping coils, new points, new condensers.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Are you running the correct spark plug? correct gap? Try testing the secondary, maybe you got a bad plug wire. Check all your connections. They can get corroded after years of sitting.

Just want to relate a 'possibility' for you... i had the misfortune of wiring one of my coils ( 350 GTR ) with the wires hooked opposite of the + - on the terminals....accidentally hooked the positive wire to the negative and the negative to the positive. Made for no spark at that coil. I did not feel the coil for any heat resulting, but probably would have felt something had i checked. If the connection is correct at the coils, perhaps the wiring leading away from the coils might not be correctly connected? ......just a thought on a possibilty for you to check out. bsforever

We have spark!

Problem was wiring to the points.
