picture of key for BS7 please
« on: April 04, 2013, 04:03:05 PM »
Hello,  I need to have a key made for my 1964 BS7 and I would like to know what one of the keys looks like.  I spoke with a locksmith and he siad he would try to reearch it but I thought I would help by checking here. If anyone knows by chance what the key blank number is that would be helpful also. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

There should be a number on the face plate where the key enters the switch - can you tell us that number ?

Or can you take a picture of the actual switch.

later ... ray

I did order an ignition key (along with a bunch of odds and ends) from Richard Clark this morning, I am just waiting for the quote and availability to come back. I am trying have patience but it is so hard when all you want to do it start the bike and ride.... 8)  Thanks for the tips!

Oh and the number on the face is 67

Hi,

On all bikes with Flywheel magneto ignition, there is usually a way to get a spark and run the engine without the ignition key. On the Bridgestone there should be two black wires to the back of the main switch. One comes from the ignition coil and one from the magneto. Disconnect these from the switch and connect the two of them together, leaving the flying lead from the main switch empty. That will allow you to run the engine (all the switch does is short these two wires to earth in order to stop the engine). You'll have no lights or battery charging system, but you can at least see if the engine runs.

Note, if your bike is the Deluxe vesrion with electric start and 12volt electrics, this trick will not work, as the electrical system is entirely different.

Hope that helps,

Graham Weeks

I did figure out if you just remove the screws that hold the ignition switch on I get spark, so it must be the switch frame that provides the ground. Thanks to all that have helped! I have submitted an order for a new key for the switch, hope I can get it soon!

Thanks again!

Well any word on that key? I just bought a 100 sport, that does not have a key.

I did order the key from Richards and it fit real nice. I had bypassed the switch and used a toggle switch to see if it was going to run before I spent the $ on the key. I am still waiting on a quote on the other parts I need, been waiting about 2 months and have not heard anything from Richards the rest of the stuff. Good luck with your 100!
