smoking and leaking
« on: July 08, 2011, 03:18:07 PM »
g day all  the gtr has blown a oil seal it is smoking heavily and trans oil is getting into right cylinder. which seal would be the main culprit if it is the one that fits into the end of the crank part#09090-117  does this mean i will have to split the cases to get at them or could it be the one that fits inside the rotary disc valve part#09090-118 has anyone had this problem before .hoping for a easy fix.cheers.
p.s its not just leaking into the pot it will drop the whole lot of its tran oil from right cover onto the floor with in a hour.hope there isnt a hole in the cases

It would likely be the seal in the center of the right rotary valve cover allowing oil into the right cylinder.  However, since it is also leaking to the outside, there is another problem.  My guess is that the nut on the end of the crankshaft came loose some time ago and has worn through the cover behind the carburetor and allowed the gear on the end of the crankshaft to move far enough to disengage the seal in the rotary valve cover, or the nut came clear off and got pushed into the bottom of the crankcase cover enough to bend it and make it leak at the gasket.  None of this should require splitting the cases, but you will need to remove the clutch, carburetor and right side crankcase cover to see what is going on.

Do don't know how long that engine as sat so its a wise move to replace the rotary seal and the cover seal.
I have replace all the seals in my GTR engine some where good some where bad they all seem to age differently!
I have put the fuel tap kit in the post to you!
Many Thanks.
Steve.

thanks Richard is gathering some together for me and some gaskets which i will trace and make spares after the seals all i need to do is get a rear brake light switch and some tyres touch wood .i want to get the chroming out of the road as electricity is going up as much as 20% that means with the last rise from the chromers of 12% that will mean a 32% rise from my last quote of $660 for the 175 tank it will be near or over $1000 to get the gtr tank chromed might be cheaper to send it overseas
