175 DT neutral switch question
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:46:31 PM »
After a lengthy project to disassemble and refurbish my 1966 175DT motor, I finally put the lower motor assembly in the frame and decided to check the electrical system. All electricals work, except the neutral light. If I put power to the neutral light wire above the crankcase, the light works.  My question is, when reassembling the transmission, etc, were there any oriention issues to make with the shaft, switch, etc??  I never removed the switch during the rebuild.  In any gear, the light does not come on.I really don't want to split the cases again. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi Sidi, check the contacts both in the selector shaft switch and the nuetural switch. Orientation of the switch cover/wiring can make a difference. Instructions re: both switches and thier proper orientation can be found in the service manual in the engine reassembly section III. If you do not have a manual, you can download it from the site under downloads. More help if you need it.  Thanks,Mark.

Thanks for your response Mark.  I had always referred to the Bridgestone service manual which doesn't seem to deal with the neutral switch. It appears the Clymer manual, section III is very descriptive on reassembly of the switch and its orientation. I'll go back to the switch and follow those references.  Thanks for the heads up on an alternative manual to refer to.

Sidi, please accept my apology for trying to further confuse you! The service manual and the one posted in the downloads are different. I will try to add a scan for now. Please check back. Thanks,Mark.

Sidi, heres the Tech book scan. Click the picture,it will blow up. Steps,1-3 and 9-11. Once blown up you have to go all the way to the bottom to move it over and to the right side to go up and down.  Thanks,Mark.
