Just Aquired '67 GTR
« on: September 10, 2011, 04:27:58 PM »
I have recently purchased this '67 GTR, with only 3,782 miles on the clock! It was sitting in the owner's parent's basement for the last 30 years! License plate shows it was last plated in 1979. I bought this site unseen, based on a phone conversation with the seller, who also agreed to deliver the bike to my house. Fearing it was going to be a pile of rust, I was plesantly surprised that it's not in bad shape! The engine turns over freely (a big relief!), and actually popped a few times when a bit of starting fluid was used. I'll be putting a remote fuel tank on it ti see if it willl run soon. The left- hand muffler probably cannot be saved, nor the rear rim, but my brother has NOS rims at his shop. Front rim has some minor rust, but usable for now. Very lite corrosion on the engine covers & air cleaner housing. Rear fender needs re-plating, but has no dents. Front fender no dents; just needs polishing. Seat in good shape-no rips or tears. Some rust on the chrome seat rivets. Solid pan. Quality vintage fibreglas cafe' fairing came with the bike, which I may, or may not keep. Some rust in the tank, but not bad. No dents or other damage. Missing a chain guard and original shocks only. Why the owner painted it white & black is beyond me! Owner stated that he parked it because of a bad crank seal. This has yet to be determined, but it has excellent compression, and a bad seal may not be the case. Price? You'd not believe me if I told you, but it was well under $500.00. The photos were taken the day I got it, just the way it came off the truck. I'll be posting a video of it soon.

Hi,
Looks like an awful lot of work. Would you like to make a quick $100 and save yourself a lot of work? HaHa  Of course you would have to deliver it to me. Welcome to the Bridgestone restoration world.

I usually don't care for fairings, but that one is retro looking!  Cool.  Nice find.

That looks like a great find! If you're not going to keep the fairing, let me know what night I can find it on the curb.

What size do you need? I believe he has more than one set for GTR/GTO.

I'm aslo curious about the chrome, but I would think previous owner had to "rough it up" to get the paint to stick, so I'm not too opptumistic. I've got my mind set to have it re-plated.

For those of you interested, nysz1b currently has the fairing listed on eBay. There's only a couple days left on the auction, so if you're in the market for one of these, time is running out.
