Carb on BS-7
« on: April 08, 2013, 10:02:15 AM »
Hello Everyone

So I pulled the BS7 out this weekend and got her running. I hooked up an old tank just so I could get fuel to it and I can't believe how well it idles. I did notice that when it is siting on the kick stand the rear tire is always spinning, I can stop it with my hand and there is no pressure so it wouldn't make it go if it was on the ground. Is that normal? Also my carb is leaking out of the overflow (attached picture). I pulled the carb apart and cleaned it again hoping that would help, it is just strange that it idles so nice but pours gas like that. The float looks good and stops the fuel when I test it so I don't know. Any tips would be appreciated, I hate to tear the carb all the way down because it runs so nice. I also wanted to know if all of the BS-7's had the black rubber pads on the side of the tank because if they did I will need to order replacement.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Sounds like you may need to check/adjust the float level if your sure the needle is seating properly.  Mark.

I ended up tearing the carb down a little further and cleaning it out again. I am going to see if that helps out, I hope I don't need to replace the needle because it looks like rebuild kits are unavalable from some of the other post on this forum. My gas tank lining kits is in at Carquest so I am excited to get that done, then I can run the new gas lines and pumb everythin back in (this time with a fuel filter) and maybe take her for a test drive this wekend. I hooked up a new style air filter because the original one was shot. The nice thing is it fits in the frame like the old one so you cant even tell. I will ket you all know how I make out. Thanks for the help!

I think I got her. I tore the carb apart again and gave it a betting cleaning. I had not taken it all the way down last time and I should have, sometimes short cuts are not worth it. It seems to be working good now and not leaking fuel. I got the tank hooked up last night and ran it for a little bit, almost time to pull her out of the barn for its inaugural run. I better get a bottle of wine or something :)
