Milestone
« on: May 26, 2010, 08:46:09 PM »
A thought occurred to me at the beginning of the week concerning motorcycles. Tonight I just checked my suspicion. Last weekend was the 30th anniversary of my ownership of my 350 GTR. Sorry to say it only saw action during the first 6 years of ownership. It needs little to be licensed again, but with money being spent on home upgrades this year and 60 hrs per week the norm at work, I don't have much energy yet to clean it up and put gas in the tank. Maybe before summer is over yet?
If vintage motorcycle weekend at Road America wasn't only 2 weekends away, I might have shot for that as an opening event.
Does anyone else claim longer than 30 years ownership for the same BS?

I have owned a few Bridgestones for that many years, but since I have been in the BS world since 1969, my ownership my not count

Richard, your ownership counts! And I forgot my dad's '67 175 that he bought new. But he hasn't joined this board, and his 175 hasn't seen pavement since the early 80s.
I should pull my GTR out since the contractors have been cutting wood in the garage and it has a fresh layer of sawdust on it.

I purchased my '68 GTR on July 21, 1972.  It's a couple months shy of 38 years of my ownership, has 40,000 miles and still runs well.

Last Sunday I didn't feel like doing anything on the chores list - but instead thought it was time to hear the GTR again. I put on the new fuel lines with a filter. Then rigged up some wires to use the MB5 battery which has bullet leads instead of screw on terminals. Not much after that I had it kicking out smoke again. Sure sounded sweet. Made a few illegal passes around the neighborhood. Two nights later took it out again and it even idled down nice at the end of the short trip. So I have a battery on order that fits. Next will be to pop the tranny sight gage out and put a new one in with sealant. Hopefully that slows the oil leak on the garage floor.
The shop owner where I ordered the battery wants to buy it sight unseen. If anyone has a decent GTR for sale in southeast WI I can find a buyer.
Any thoughts on why my tach needle is swinging all over the place? Cable ends are on tight. Would lubing the cable be a possible solution?

Yes, lube the cable or it will break soon.  Double check that the lower connection to the engine is tight.

thanks, I'll add cable lube to the list of things to do. The lower end is tight but could probably use a new seal or o-ring. It's a little oily there. also need to make a filter for the air intake, it's only ever had a wire mesh ever since I got it.
The shop dealer said he's heard someone in Rice Lake WI bought a stash of Bridgestones. He's hoping to get something from that, but seems to have a little doubt in his voice.
