Paint Color
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:31:47 PM »
Anyone out there know of a close match to "Imperial Gold" some of these bikes were painted with.  I need to do some touch-ups.  Thanks in advance.

Habanero52, (love the "name" BTW) I've got a 70 350 GTO and have been searching here and elsewhere for that very same answer. To date, I've never found the answer.

I bought a NOS side cover from Richard for the sole purpose of having something original and unfaded that can be color matched. Once I get that done, I'll be posting the paint formula here for everyone to use, but that'll be sometime from now and won't help anyone needing answers soon.

moonpup, have you had any luck with the color formula for the Imperial gold color paint?  I know there was another topic started on paint colors, and not sure if you followed up on the Imperial Gold color ( if i remember correctly, the Imperial Gold color was not correct for the GTO?   i.e. GTO was a lighter shade of gold)?

Pardon me for answering but the Imperial Gold is the proper color for the early GTO's. (chrome tanks)

It was not until Bridgestone painted the entire tank that the gold color was made a darker shade.

If you review the Imperial Gold topic you will find a very close color match.

I hope this helps.

bsforever.... The thread Randy is referring to is here: http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=3038.0

I haven't had a chance to do any color matching as of yet, so I'd defer to Randy and Steve S. for their input. I sent Steve S. my NOS side cover so his painter could figure it out but haven't heard anything lately how on how it's going. Maybe he'll jump in and give us an update. I do know that Randy's paint looks pretty good from what I can see in the pictures he posted in the gallery.

Now i see ...thanks for the link moonpup. Imperial gold colors but different shades.....i read the thread and see that i am looking for the FOG color for Imperial gold ( '71 GTR shade ) and not the FBG shade ( '70 GTO shade ). The tank i have is very faded and scratched up and is very much in need of a new paint job.......  i have the decals for the two stripes on each side of the tank as well as the '350' side decals on the oil tank and battery cover ( 71 GTR uses decals and not the 'plaques' or badges ) Hopefully i will be able to have the project completed before this Fall and have a few weeks of ride time on it before the flakes start falling.  :(

I changed the color of the peanut tank I had on my custom 66 Honda CB450 several times. I enjoyed very low maintenance
