New Guy in the Mountains with a 100TMX

Hey everyone, just joined the fold yesteday, and completely by accident. I have a '95 BMW R1100GS (among other bikes) and got hooked up with a local guy who had some parts I needed. While in his shop, I noticed this 1971 100TMX sitting back in the corner and asked about it. He said he had had it for about 20 years and had never put any real effort into it.

He tossed out a number that I couldn't say no to...basically gave it away to me. So it hopped in my truck and I took it home.

The motor is free and it feels like it's got good compression. The carb was stuck, but I got it cleaned up and stuck back on the bike. I really suspect all it needs is a battery and some premix to get running again.

The tank is cosmetically okay, but I think someone coated it at some point and the liner failed. I dumped probably 5 pounds of gunk out of it. If it was rust, there wouldn't be any metal left in the tank at this point.

Anyway, thanks for having me. I'm sure I'll be around for tech help and parts as I get this thing running again.

        Welcome to the site, think you have hit jackpot with that one. Very complete, turns over, good condition, even rubber parts look ok but may not be. Shouldn't take much  to get her running.

Posted in your other thread. I've been to the meet before, but never on a 2T. I briefly had a '72 H2, but needed the cash badly for a heat pump replacement at the house a few years back. Wish I had been able to keep it.
