Some toughies in there, no2 really stretched me :D. Damn those pesky large 2S marine engines. Wasn't gonna say but 28 also.
Be interesting to see how far they go with fuel injected 2S engines. Must bring my knowledge up to date. Karl, you raised an FI question the other day.

I take issue with at least one of the answers; Every small two stroke mower or chain saw I've seen has been a reed valve type, not piston port. I'm not sure the author has numbers to back up the claim that piston ported engines are more common. May have been true in the past, when there were many two stroke piston ported motorcycle engines, but I'd guess mowers, chain saws, string trimmers outnumber other two strokes today.
But then, I don't have any numbers to back up my own opinion either!!
Anyone have any numbers on this question?

BS,.............. I took a chance on that question. US small 2S's obviously more advanced than UK. No reed valves on mine but then, they may be older, much older!! ;D
Give yourself a 1 for that.
Saw a 'Massive Engineering' programme recently. You can stand inside the crankcase or cylinder on the biggest 2S marine diesels. That would help with
inspecting the chrome on the bores :o. Seems bigger really is better when it comes to 2S engines !!

I've got 2 chain saws and at least 3 trimmers around and they're all piston ported, but then the newest is at least 10 years old, so that could easily have changed.

I've gone totally battery powered for my trimmers and chain saw. Also have a plug-in chainsaw that is awesome and enough heavy gauge extension cord (with inverter on my diesel Ford P/U) to reach every tree on the place, so the 2S motor is outta favor in southern AZ, except for BS's...

but i don't know old school ounces and gallons. so couldn't figure out the ratio, if it was mls per liter it wouldn't have been a problem. :D
also didn't know about big 2 Stroke Crosshead Engines, so i learned something today
