New to me 1967(?) 90 Sport with oil injection
« on: October 20, 2014, 02:05:33 PM »
Picked up a Bridgestone 90 Sport (oil injected) the other day.  Saw it on CL and just had to have it.

Back in 71 my Dad brought one home just like it in three or four boxes and said that if I could get it running, it was mine.  Took a week or so and several long walks to the local MC shop for parts, but got it running and abused it for 2 or three years.

I wont do much to this one cosmetically, other than the seat and tires as the paint is OK and I like the "used" look.  It needs a motor rebuild as the crank bearings are howling and the seals dont seal anymore, but it does spark and turn over.

I am pretty familiar with two strokes as I have been building and racing Hodaka's for well over 10 years.

Great website!  Lots of info and look forward to contributing when I can.

Thanks,

Congrats on a good purchase. I saw this bike and was very tempted to buy it based on the condition of the tank, exhaust and wheels. All look to be in really good shape compared to most that I have seen.

You can get a reproduction seat cover on Ebay for about $50.00.

Richard, owner of this site, should have the bearings and seals you need.

Thanks all for the welcome.
Pulled the motor out and the damage was worse than I thought.  Looks like a needle came out of the small end bearing and scored the cylinder deep enough to junk the cylinder. Of course the piston/rings are both scrap as well.

Thanks for the welcome.

Most of the piston skirt pieces were in the transfer ports and in the bottom of the crankcase.  Puzzled it all back together and 99% of it was all there.

I put a list together of the parts I will need and sent an email to Richard.

As long as the list isnt too pricey, I should have it up and running in no time.

Overall, exterior of the motor doesnt look too bad.  Will know more once I split the cases.

Bearings and seals came in at IBT and I am waiting on an email from Richard on the other parts I need.
