GTR timing and points
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:18:48 PM »
I saw the service manual that talks about removing a bolt and inserting a timing plug or device (in the crankshaft) to set the timing but it doesn't show where this bolt is at. Can someone direct me (or maybe there is a thread covering this?)

Also I think I might have some funky monkey points in this bike, they sure don't look like they actually fit in there correctly. The points look new, and the heel doesn't touch the cam in spots.

One last question.... there is a black wire and a white wire going to the points. Which wire goes to which set of points? The reason I ask is because the plug wires coming out of the coils are crossed on their way to the spark plugs, but it runs that way and I suspect the points are wired backwards. On mine the white wire is going to the front set of points and the black wire to the rear points.
I have a tilt wheel for more headroom!

The hexagonal bolt is on the left side front crank case just down from the cylinder i used a drill bit!
And the white wire left side points goes to the left coil and the blackwire goes to the right side coil.
Thanks.
Reed.
