Shift Pattern
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:10:22 PM »
OK, I don't want to hear any snickering...

Am I to understand neutral is all the way up and then you shift down through all 6 gears?

I thought my tranny was messed up cause I was thinking first was down, then one up into neutral, and then up for the next five gears, kind of like most other bikes..... :-\
I have a tilt wheel for more headroom!

That's correct - neutral is at the top, down for first, down for second etc., all the way to 6th.

Unlike the smaller Bridgestones the 350s have stops on the shift drum, so you can't shift down from 6th into neutral (or up from neutral into 6th).

When you do get it going and out on the road, just remember that these bikes don't have a rev limiter, so take great care if you're used to a conventional shift. Shifting the wrong way can be embarrassing. There aren't any valves to get tangled, but I believe that if you overrev it hard enough you can bust rings (I'm pretty sure that's what happened to mine, fortunately a long time, several owners and an engine rebuild ago).

Oh, and welcome!

Thanks!

So my tranny probably isn't messed up. That's good news. I just need to figure out why my clutch won't release.
