re-plating rims

Need recommendations for a chrome shop that will re-plate wheel rims. Alot of shops will not tackle them, because the spoke holes tear up their buffiing mops. Would prefer a chrome shop near the east coast (I'm in Georgia), but can ship anywhere in the U.S. Thanks in advance!

I don't know from personal experience whether it is true or not, or only applies to rims with a fair amount of corrosion, but I have been counseled more than once not to rechrome bike rims as they are often left thin enough to become unsafe.  Anyone else...yea or nay on this?

Might be better off $$$ wise to buy a set of new chrome rims, or If your not 100% sold on original, try a set of alloy rims!

Well i thought about that one time... first... remove all the spooks... then take them to the platers.....  then be ready to spend about 300 bucks to get them back just so you can find another shop to relaze them.. and spend 200 bucks to get them back....... NAAAAAAAAAH

Thanks for the replies.What is weird is that the rim is in very good condition, except one outer edge has numerous scratches (not tire iron marks) on its entire face; the other side and the rest of the rim is near-perfect. I've never seen anything like this; it's as though someone took emory cloth to that outer edge. I'll ask Richard if he has an NOS rim. Have not been able to find a replacement rim stateside from rim suppliers.

I want to confirm that the GTR has a rim width  (inside bead-to-bead) of 1.75 inches?

           They can supply a chrome steel rim 19 x 1.85 (WM2), 36 hole. They may also be available in stainless if you want to splash out.  Could be cheaper than rechroming.

Technically, it's a WM-2, you'll see them advertised as 1.85 inches as BRT-GTR said.  Has anyone had one shipped to the U.S.?  Just curious how much it would cost.  Shipping parts from the U.S. to the UK is outrageous.

          Just checked a GTO front wheel rim, it does measure 1.75 inches at the base of the rim flanges.    The WM2 rim is designed to take 3.25'' or 3.5'' tyres so is the correct rim for the 350 wheels.

Karl brings up a problem that is just getting worse ... and knocking all the fun out of restoring bikes. Shipping stuff from US to Europe and vice versa.

If you leave it to say an eBay seller or any firm selling say rims. They have to follow the rules and as we all know rules are made to be broken !

What I have been doing for example is, buy from US seller and send to a friends address in US. He then relabels / value and ships to me. Used parts / replacement ... what ever. Paper never refused ink.

In Ireland we are are being dinged with VAT / Duties on anything over €100 .....
