Getting Real Close! Outside Pictures Added!
« on: September 07, 2013, 12:33:18 PM »
I still have some minor tweaking to do, but I should have her fired up for the first time in a few days.  It's been a long frustrating (at times) restoration.  But I think the results are worth it.  I did decide to go with the GTO Imperial Gold color.  This color is constantly changing shades, depending on the lighting.  One picture is with the garage door closed the other with it open.  I should have some finished pictures in the few days.  Wish me luck!

That's purty!
Is that a 3.5 x 19 rear tire?

Maybe I'll do some work on mine later this afternoon after lunch and errands....?

Thanks guys.  Well I attempted to start today, and to my surprise it started on the second kick!  Man was I happy.  It settled right down into idle and ran great.  I started it on pre-mix and waited for the oil pump to do it's thing.
Has anyone else had this happen?  I have a gap in the oil feed lines (see picture).  I have run the engine a total of  about 15-20 minutes and the gap is still there.  The oil is being used.  I marked the hose and can see the level go below my mark, and then replenished..  Not sure how, or if I even have to get the hoses to fill completely with oil and no gaps.
Suggestions please?  I want to stop running the pre-mix, but I'm still alittle afraid.
Thanks.

Hold the oil pump output control lever on maximum output until all air has been displaced and the oil lines are filled with oil only. Not sure whether this will work on Bridgestone oil pumps, but it works on Kawasaki A1s, A7s and Triples.

It's a pain, mine does it in exactly the same place. So I start it at 2.5k revs and hold the oil pump open, it then fills the tubes and all is well but some times it comes back. Still pumps oil into the engine with an air gap though but better not to have one.

Hi, Steve.

I had a similar problem with my BS175 Dual Twin a while ago. It turned out to be a pinhole in the oil line, and air was being sucked in that way, although oil was still getting through to the engine. I'd check the fit of the oil lines at each end, and check that the union fittings at the pump and check valve are tight and properly sealed. A light smear of silicone sealant on the union spigot before you fit the oil line might help, as well as a light smear on each side of the aluminium union gaskets - but don't go too mad with this as you don't want gobs of silicone floating around to block oilways. Another thought, have you got a hairline crack in the oil union itself?

If the air appeasr in both oil lines, the air leak may lie in the line between the pump and oil tank.

Hope that helps,

Graham

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I will try them all and see which one solves the problem.  All the lines are brand new so I doubt any of them are leaking already, but you never know.  I will check.

Just a quick update.  I managed to bleed all the air out of my oil lines completely.  I used Ziggy's suggestion and it worked great!
Thanks Ziggy and everyone.
