Front end swap
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:05:07 PM »
I'm just knocking around some ideas but what would you think of swaping a front end off of a newer bike onto a GTR? I'm more or less thinking of taking one of the parts bikes I have and possibly turning it into a Cafe bike of sorts. I have a 1980 Suzuki GS 550 that has a nice front end with a working disk brake, it's much beefier than the Bridgestone front end, and no gaiters.

I also have a alloy fuel tank that might look good on that, kind of a Manx style thing.
I have a tilt wheel for more headroom!

Tom,there could be some obvious benefits to more modern front ends, even though the stock 350 forks are adequate and respond well. I don't see any issues to doing it,espescially when the bike is not intended to be a factory resto, etc.  Mark.

Tom
If you have a spare Bridgestone 350 gtr put the Suzuki gs 550 front end on with the disk brake better braking etc.
I like thinking outside the box!
Thanks.
Reed.

Well, I have a GTR "parts" bike that is basically a rolling frame. It has no engine or fuel tank (the engine is in pieces and looks to be missing some stuff, not to mention it looks like it was sitting in a pond for a number of years). It does have a seat that is in poor shape. That would be my "victim". I figure I could score an engine from one of the trashed out bikes you see on E Bay from time to time.
