BS - FTR 175
« on: August 28, 2017, 04:09:31 AM »
Hi All,

Three years after downsizing and getting back on top of life. I have found time to look around and see what is left. This DT 175 was dragged along and left out the back of the workshop. I also had a crashed Honda FTR 250, minus engine that a friend left with me. Tank & seat section in good condition.

After a brain fart, why not a BS FTR 175 ?... Ceriani forks sitting with Richard Clark for years finally made it back to me. Have a set of SR carb covers, carbs, valve covers and a few other bits to rebuild the engine. Lets make noise !!

Will need to build a set of expansion chambers and plan to have them both come out on the right side.

Aiming to spend the least amount possible and use all the stuff in boxes to make the build.

later ... ray

Lady luck was on the side of this DT. Has been out in all weather and yet the cylinders just slid off the pistons !!.... Both pistons were blocking the exhaust ports and am assuming the rotary valves are also blocking off the crank. As no water or corrosion in the crankcases.

A little progress made. Wheels rebuilt so as to get a rolling chassis. Need to do a full dry build to make sure I have everything cut off that is not needed and new bits welded on to frame that are needed ?... before stripping it and getting frame & tank painted. Looking at KTM orange.

Picked up a set of pipes that will need some cutting & welding to make fit. They will do for now till I find the time & energy to custom make a set coming out on right side.

After opening up the silencers, decided to cut the end cans off and expose the expansion chamber ends. Need to graft on standard header pipes. Makes it possible to have both pipes out on the right side. Some creative bracketing needed yet, doable.
