Bike no 2 finished (almost)
« on: March 12, 2016, 10:14:49 AM »
After many hundreds of hours, heartache, frustration, anger and joy, bike no 2 is finished. At least I though it was until I took it off the centre stand and heard a clunk dohhh. No centre stand rubber, the things you forget. Anyway, here's a few photo's to share.

Wow,
What a nice job. Don't know who does the paint, chrome and polishing but very nice.
Good Job, Mike

The bike looks absolutely great!  What size and type of tires did you wind up using, as they look very correct on the machine.

Thanks

Tom

Very nice . I have recently chromed the chain guard after the show and ride last weekend I discovered that it had rubbed against the casing. Just something to check if you haven't already done so.

Mike and Coxy, I didn't rechrome or paint anything, the front mudguard is A1 apart from a slight ding in the front section. The chain guard is original and good but has some very slight marks on it and doesn't rub. The tank chrome has faded but good. Exhausts and wheels are original and in excellent condition. The side panels and frame have been painted and I suspect the tank has too but not by me.

It was the engine on this one that took all of the time. The crank that was in it was scrap and had been swimming for a few years I suspect? Rebuilt used good crank, seals and bearings. Replated cylinders, new pistons, rings and con rods. All new seals throughout and too many other parts to list, all in all a right PITA but worth it now as it starts 1st kick and runs sweet.

I bought this bike in boxes of bits and got a lot of boxes for my money. Some work had already been done including the seat but the engine was untouched and in bits.

I bought quite a few NOS parts from Richard and elsewhere and got a lot of excellent help from certain members on this very forum, without whom I wouldn't have finished yet. They know who they are and have my utmost thanks and respect.

Tom, I used Avon Speedmaster MkII 3.25 x 19 on the front and Avon Safety mileage II 3.5 x 19 on the rear.

Fantastic  it's so good  that you did not take away the original identity of your bike.  And you are very lucky to have good chrome it saves a motser well done
