New retirement project Bridgestone 200 SS

Hi

I have just bought my first restoration project a Bridgestone 200, a true barn find but complete. It is very rusty on the metal, chrome pitted, rubbers perished and alloy tarnished, and cables and bearings seized other than that it's perfect.

So I will need help, advise, tea and sympathy. (or Whiskey)

I started out just like you 2 years ago. The one I found was in much worse shape though. You'll be surprised at just how much information and parts you can find here and on EBay. If you get stuck or have a question search it on this site or just post it.

I have used EvapoRust with great success for rust removal. Very effective and non-toxic. I don't know if it is available where you are, but it is a chelating agent. There are other molasses mixtures, etc. on the internet that will work as well. Also, Milkstone has been used by others on this site with success. Search here and a little surfing and you should be past your rust problem...Good luck...

Hi,
One of the cheapest and probably one of the better chrome platers near you is Chromefix in Birmingham. UK, I had them re-chrome both wheel rims and the chain guard for a very reasonable price, I live in Scotland so they arranged pick up and delivery back to me in the price, also they were definitely the quickest I have used with a turnaround of just over 3 weeks, they were recommended to me by another member on this site and having used many chrome platers restoring a good few bikes over the years these were about the best I have used and I will probably never use any other.
