FOUND - Factory Paint Codes !!!
« on: February 08, 2014, 09:06:12 AM »
I found this page in the batch of factory service letters I just acquired and it's not one that is included in the links on any other sites that I've looked at.

Unfortunately, it's dated too early to include the gold paint codes. (major bummer!)

Anyway, here you go and I hope it helps.  ;D

Moonpup,

I meant, scan it into the reference section of the site.

I haven't had enough coffee yet.

Thanks

No problem, I can re-scan it in pdf. and submit it to Richard to be included somewhere in the "manuals/articles" section if that would help.

Thank you.

If you do it might make it easier for people to find in
the future.

Thanks again.

I wonder if a Dupont dealer can even find those reference specs today.  I tried to find a spec for a Chrysler paint (Dupont number) from the 70's that I had used on my racer and they couldn't find any reference to it in their current books. I had to go back to matching some more recent color chips.  If someone finds a dealer that can reference those numbers, they should ask for a print-out of the paint mix so that someone could duplicate it. Even that may not work if the color components don't have the same names/numbers, but it's worth a try.

I agree Karl, it's going to take a little more research to nail down a modern equivalent. At least we now know Bridgestone liked to use DuPont Dulux and have somewhere to start.

I guess I need one of these if I'm going to find my GTO gold.......

Yes, even though it is great that you tracked down these original paint codes, unfortunately they won't be able to translate into modern paint codes.  I have tried dozens of times to cross reference these old codes at my local paint shops with no luck at all.
It is neat that we do have the original codes now!
