"Summer of 71" Now Playing....(Vintage GTO Video)
« on: May 27, 2013, 04:58:30 PM »
Here's some old 8mm of me giving rides to visiting relatives. I'd just gotten the GTO and it still had paper tags. Enjoy...

I really like this. You had some brave relatives ;D  Reminds me of when I bought a 15 year old chevy pickup and had to give all my inlaws a ride in it.

I don't have any old films or pictures from back then but I do have this, my Dad's old 1970 V750 Moto Guzzi. I just went and got it out of the barn after I bought this $200 trailer. He traded my GTR in on the Guzzi. I had given it to him after I bought a 66 CB450 Honda. I regretted that almost immediately. These old Guzzis were built with solid stuff. Things like the grips and footpeg rubbers look like new. I have the Buco bags and fairing that he had on it too.

What a lovely video Moonpup, must bring back lots of great memories for you. You were a lucky lad to have your GTO back in the day, is that still the same bike that you have today?

Dave, I think that's cool you have your Dad's old Guzzi! Wish I had my Dad's old purple 1954 MG TD.  ;D

Thanks Steve, I am lucky to have this brief "moment" of my past to look back on. Truth is, for 30+ years, I wasn't even aware that this footage existed.

Back in 2003 while at a family get together, my Aunt was showing some of her home movies and that's when I first saw it. Then 10 years later and 2 months ago during a phone conversation with her, she asked what I was up to and I mentioned that I'd recently bought a motorcycle like the one I had in S. Dakota and she reminded me that she had the VHS. I'd forgotten all about that!  :o So, long story short, she sent it to me so I could have it digitally converted.

Unfortunately, the GTO in the video was sold at the end of the following summer to help pay for college.  :(

The fact that you found out about the film many years later is even better I think, it would have been a great surprise!
Obviously, i don't know if you kept any info on that bike, reg no, frame no, etc,...it would be good to know if it's still out there.
