Title: GTR vs. GTO Main Wiring Harness
Post by: moonpup on October 30, 2017, 03:58:10 PM
Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any actual differences between the two 350 models.

The parts manual shows 2 different part numbers (8811-9000 & 8811-9010), but when I compare the 2, each exit point matches the other in terms of the number & color of wires coming out.

Why then, are there 2 different part numbers?   popcorn

Different lengths?

Different lengths?

Nope, they're the same.

I'm starting to think (actually guessing) that the different part numbers aren't necessarily a GTR vs. GTO thing per se, but that it may have been a package that included more wiring than just the main harness.

Could the different numbers actually identify pre 1970/GTR's (no front brake switch) vs. post 1970 GTR's & GTO's (with front brake switch) packages. Packages for each number would have included the main harness (identical for both pre & post) and any other smaller wiring bits that would complete the wiring package. (no brake switch vs. brake switch)

I agree, the later harness (package) would be most likely to include the additional wiring required for connection of the front brake switch, although it was still not built in to the main harness.
There is also a revised 'Body earth wire'  (battery to frame/rectifier) listed, part No. 8831-9010 for (I assume) machines with the front brake switch. I can only guess this was made slightly longer than the original part 8831-9000 to facilitate  battery disconnection. It was not required to allow fitting of the front brake switch. Maybe a later small improvement to the wiring system.

some Australian delivered bikes came with blinkers (indicators ) there is a tab welded to the frame near the rectifier for the flasher unit so there also could be another part#for the additional wiring for that and the switch blocks etc
this was for the gtr
