Clearcoat for brake drums and plates?

Brake drums and backing plates originally had some sort of a clear coating over the polished aluminum.  What are your recommendations for restoration?  The coating on my hubs and backing plates was partly gone, badly yellowed, and the aluminum had lost all its shine.  I've now removed all the old coating and have polished the aluminum.  Now I'm wondering if I should paint them with some sort of clear coating and if so, what do you recommend?

I only clear coat the centre of the hub before i spoke the wheel .
And all my hubs on my motorcycles i just keep them clean etc.

What do you use for the clear coating?

I used Acrylic Lacquer made by Dupli-color its in a can and it will not yellow etc.
And you can buy it anywhere.

PS i did some wheels five years and they still look like new.
