You can make one if you are good at drilling a hole reasonably well centered lengthwise through a bolt. I haven't checked my 350 yet, but did find out the 175/200s set the timing 1-2° later (retarded) from the service manual specs using the timing pin. You can set it exactly to the service manual if you have a dial indicator. They'll run well either way.

Hi oldswar
Thanks for the info.being my first bs im still learning.is the timing tool sprung loaded and can you hear a click whilst watching the timing bulb go out as you rotate the engine.there are 2 clicks one for each cylinder.ill use a dti to get it accurate.cheers

Two clicks is correct, one for each cylinder. I've used a piece of rod or cut off bolt with a point ground on it before.

I put a finger on the end of the timing pin, you can feel when it drops into a slot, that way you can watch the timing bulb and sense when the two coincide. It's a bit of a stretch when using the rear wheel to nudge the engine forward but does work.

Do you mean that oil from the gearbox is getting onto the left disc valve ?
