******All MEMEBERS please read!********
« on: July 17, 2011, 11:51:20 AM »
After having this request from a member, I have changed the CLASSIFIED ADS. I request that all members make the change as noted below:

The issue:  When someone first posts a CLASSIFIED AD, or make a new notice of a BS item, "found for sale on the web"
This ad or notice of "ad found"  would show up in the regular messages, which everyone, members and "non members or guest" could read.

I feel that members of this site, should have first chance to these ads, before "non member or guests"

Therefore:   I have made changes to the site, to rectify this issue, now only "login" members can see these notices on the home page.

I am asking all members to post  ITEMS FOR SALE  and NOTICES OF BS ITEMS FOUND ON THE WEB in the CLASSIFIED ADS,  I did
create a new subtopic in the CLASSIFIED ADS for "Bridgestone items found around the web"

What this does is give members of this site, first chance to read the ads, over "non member guest"  Another reason to join our site.

Thanks
Richard Clark

Richard, there doesn't seem to be any way to add a picture or two to an "ad" listing. Can the "additional options" be added?

Moonpub

At bottom of ad listing window, it states:::      'Note: After the listing is created there is an option to add pictures"

You fill out ad, text, title, ect, then click on button " Add Listing" , then a second window comes up, allowing you to ad PHOTOS.

At least it does for me!

Please let me know after you check it out.

Thanks

Thanks Richard, didn't see that. Got one pic in but didn't see a way to add more. Is that possible?

Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this as to whether or not I'm liking it. I still think that it's a great idea that members should get first shot at the items other members find and post about, but some of these posting also have "discussion value" and now that they are in the classified section, they will be deleted and lost forever when the listing expires in 90 days. Some good content is going to be lost because of that.

That to me would not be a good thing. A car forum that I'm active on has a "Members only section" in the "Discussion Forum". Maybe "Found on the Web" could be set up that way in a "Members only section".

Classifieds should be kept open to anyone. I'm sure there are some individuals here that could care less if it's a member or not that comes up with the cash for an item they are selling, but on the other hand, if a member does wish to give other members first shot, they could reference it in the "Members only" "Found on the Web"  section.

Just some random thoughts and my 2cents.

Sure has gotten quiet here.......... does anyone else have any thoughts/ideas, whether yay or nay on this subject matter?

Also, I'd like to point out a slight correction to my previous post. It appears that ads posted in the classifieds leave no room for any possible discussion, as there is no way to reply or leave a comment to the posting. So I guess there won't be any good content lost, since there is no way to leave any.

I find the new system a little more cumbersome, but I understand why Richard instituted it. Previously I could zoom through and post multiple Craigslist and eBay items with ease. This new system doesn't lend itself quite as easily to doing that, or so it seems to me.

Maybe I'm part of the reason things are a bit quieter around here.....for better or for worse.  ;D  I'm still reading when I can.....but at the moment I don't have lots of spare time to post.

My 91 year old father passed away June 30, and my sister and I have been busy with estate matters and dealing with nearly 60 years of my parents living in the same house. My mom passed away about 6 1/2 years ago.
I was appointed Personal Representative of the estate and as such I have to do the business of the estate.
This is a first time thing for me, but luckily I had prior knowledge of my folks will and their wishes and desires about ten years ago.
Also I had the good fortune to be taking care of my Dad's business beginning about three years ago this past March.......before he began to have health related issues.
All that coupled with a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable attorney who wrote the will, and an aunt and uncle who have been through this process numerous time before, has provided me with lots of good support to do what I need to do.
Both of my parents were active, engaging people and had lots of interests and hobbies. My mom was big into glassware and china. Dad's interests included Ham radio, painting, woodworking, and reading. So we have lots of Ham gear, antique radios, shelves full of unique and unusual glassware to appraise and sell.....things that could potentially glean significant monetary return to the estate. Oh, then there's all the other stuff....furniture, vehicles, shop tools, etc.,etc.,etc. And later, trying to sell the house in a depressed and distressed real estate market.
I think this movie is going to be an almost endless reel for the next 9-10 months.

It's a big job and one the isn't going to end anytime soon.
C'est la vie.

Sorry you do not like the new system.

About your statement, that a reader can not leave a comment or discussion:

You can leave a COMMENT indeed, just look down
at bottom left side or AD, click on words  NEW COMMENT, perhaps you did not see this?

Hope this helps.

Thanks
Richard Clark

ztnoo - My "quiet in here" comment was in reference to this particular post, not the overall activity of the site or any of it's members.  Sorry to hear of your Fathers passing. I'm currently taking care of my Mother myself and am not looking forward to dealing with the estate when that time comes. I hope every thing goes well for you.

Richard - My mistake again :-[ , I keep forgetting to scroll all the way to the bottom. However, the fact remains that the "Ad" and all its comments will be lost forever after 90 days.

As far as liking or not liking the new system, I still think it's a good idea to give Members first "dibs", I'm just not sure the Classified section with its time constraints is the right place.

Personally I like the way you have to be a member to view ad. Giving another advantage to join the free site.  Keeps outsiders from getting all the deals  ;D
I think 90 days is long enough to view comments since anything decent will be gone within 90 days.  But I bet richard could set it up for longer
But it would be simple to just talk in  the regular messages too  DG

I like the way only members can view the ad.
And i think 90days is long enough!
That said Moonpup and ztnoo have been
Doing a fine job posting the Bridgestone motorcycles
For sale and i say Thank you very much for your
Hard work and keep it up!
Thanks again.
Steve.
