My Bridgestone has always been perfect...not!....lol
Seriously, I had a Yamaha 400 Enduro (mid 70's) that used to foul plugs at the worst possible time, which for a single cylinder can cause some unpredicatable riding....Power, power, power....NO POWER...high side...

BSA 441 Victor Special. The tractor of dirt bikes. It refused to start, kicked back so violently one time I flew over the seat. Vibrated so badly parts broke all the time. Vibrated so badly it hurt my teeth. Leaked oil. My hands were numb. However, every once in awhile when the moon was full on a Tuesday it ran like no other bike made, it would go straight up a tree if you so desired. It would literally tear up chunks of sod in our yard with the rear tire when I rode across it. I probably should get another one.

Come to think of it, just about every BSA I ever had was a problem (and I've had a lot of them). Just my curse I guess...
I have a tilt wheel for more headroom!

The TR25W I have been restoring has caused me all kinds of fun.
It took me a long time to find out why I couldn't get spark. After
finding that, now the bike will only run for a few seconds before
it locks up. I pretty sure the rings are stuck. That means
probably a new piston and rings.

The way I drove (beat) the 350 GTR I had when I was 16 caused me
to have to replace several clutch plates a week. It didn't seem to like
doing wheelies and burnouts. Plus, I had to replace the rectifier about
once every other month.

The one that gave me the most pain was also a BSA.
My BSA B50 was possibly the worst product ever inflicted on the motorcycling
world. The love- hate relationship I had with this monster still gives me pain
after all these years.
It was usually was impossible to start. it could damage your leg/foot so easily
if you weren't careful when kicking it through. The kick starter shaft and splines
would strip regularly. The bottom end was very weak and I had to go through the
engine when it was only a year old. It did all the things described by Toystoretom's
441. All my riding buddies had Bultaco's, Yamaha's, Honda's ect., so they had a lot of
fun making jokes about English junk.
When it did run, it was a monster.
Cheers,
Skinny

All this "British Bike" discussion, reminds me of a Norton Atlas a friend of mine had. It had the worst vibration I have ever experienced (no wonder since both pistons travel together, both up or both down). He loved it, but things were constantly falling off. I used to follow him on my GTR when we rode and watch for things coming adrift...

Tom and Skinny
That's because BSA stands for 'Breaks down and Stops Anywhere. Some people also say 'Bloody Sore Arse'

I must admit I was a little shocked at the vibration from My Triumph Thunderbird. However, at 50 mph the bike runs sweetly...

I tell you another one that I had... it was a '69 H1 Kawasaki (it had the front drum brake). They called it the "widow maker" and the "Quick and the Dead" bike. Not because it was sooooo fast when it hit the ports. It was because the darn thing would not go around a curve. The most evil handling motorcycle I ever rode. It was stinkin' dangerous. It liked to seize the center cylinder too. When I sold it I had a box full of scoured center cylinders and pistons that went with it. I could actually feel when it was starting to overheat and lock up and would pull off the road and let it cool down.

In defense of the BSAs I had a '70 Lightning (pre OIF) that to this day was probably the best handing motorcycle I ever owned. No one on this planet could sync the carbs but that's why they sold Thunderbolts.

I actually got to ride a Spitfire (not my bike) that had Amal GP's on it. What a mistake that was. The bike died at every stop sign and red light that I hit. I should have taken it out to a track somewhere but I was too young and stupid to do that.  :D
