Shift Forks
« on: March 05, 2015, 03:45:18 AM »
I'm in the process of assembling the 2nd 350 engine and the shift forks don't look great.

One of them has no raised faces and is worn right down into the cast metal. The other two don't look too bad but are clearly well worn. Are these still available or do they have to be refurbished in some way, or is there another answer?

I believe Ebos in Sweden, www.ebos.se, can recondition shift forks for Kawasaki triples and twins, so they probably can also recondition GTR forks. I don't have any first-hand experience with them, but you can always mail them- nothing ventured, nothing gained. They will need the dimensions of a new part, but those can be found in the Service Manual.

I would not use shift forks that are as worn as what you described, for sure. The service manual has a width spec. for the pad, I would stay within that. Are not shift forks available from time to time on Ebay? I have a supply, was just cleaning up six of them tonight.

Just for grins, I black oxided a set of good ones. I'm big into black oxiding because it offers some corrosion resistance and surface lubricity without effecting the surface metal or part dimensions, and it is a cheap process. I'm using it on the forks for the lubricity factor.
